Inside Holiday '26
After 33 years at Silver Jeans Co., Senior Vice President of Design Janice Marks has seen denim cycle through more than a few eras. She’s watched rises climb and fall, legs narrow and widen, washes go light and distressed and then dark and clean again.
Three decades in denim have taught her that fashion rarely leaves the past behind. It comes back altered by a new generation, a different mood, and the cultural shifts that shaped the years between. This is the heartbeat of Silver’s Holiday ’26 collection.
Janice gave the season a name early in the design process: Indigo Echoes. Rather than anchoring the collection to a single decade, she looked across several of them at once. “We had 70s freedom, 80s glam, 90s minimalism, and then a real push into the 2000s,” she says. “It draws on familiar references without feeling tied to the past.”
For Janice, the bigger idea was “individualism layered with history.” There is no single decade to follow, and no expectation that everything belongs neatly to the same era. Instead, she was interested in what happens when different influences mix.
“It was about bringing different eras and trends together.” An approach that feels particularly relevant now, when personal style has become less about subscribing to one look and more about choosing what speaks to you.
The collection looks back on history, but Janice was equally interested in where she could take it. She pushed into abstract printed denim, vintage tints, washed blacks and greys, building a palette she describes simply as “rich and shadowy.”
There is contrast throughout: “We were working at both ends of the spectrum,” she says, from clean, polished denim to vintage washes and tinted patinas.
Silhouette gave her another way to play with those references. Sage, a wide leg designed to hang lower on the hips, became one of her defining pieces of the season. The Avery Trouser, with its clean pockets and extended tab, pulled in a more tailored influence. Together, they capture what Janice and her team were after. “We pushed the fashion details while still keeping everything polished.”
The holiday season also gave her an opportunity to explore a more dressed-up side of denim. “I wanted everything to feel sophisticated, while still having that vintage influence,” she says. Dark rinses and blue-blacks play into that idea, adding depth to a collection already rich with details from different eras.
For Janice, it ultimately comes back to “a balance between trend evolution and wearability.”
“We want to create pieces that feel fresh for today but still have longevity.” That long view is what makes Indigo Echoes feel particularly fitting. The past is recognizable throughout the collection but never repeated exactly as it was.
